- Grand Central Market, Angels Flight, DTLA Art Walk, Last Bookstore & ProbationThe Last Bookstore, Los Angeles, CA
DTLA ArtWalk was a cool thing before the pandemic. It is finally making a return with a slight re-brand as DTLA Art Night

Our event will be a little bit LA history, little bit arty, little bit tour and a little bit bar night social.

- Museums of the Arroyo day. Six museums all FREE. It's culturally gratuitous!!Heritage Square Museum, Los Angeles, CA
Once a year six museums in the Arroyo Seco area participate in Museums of the Arroyo Day, opening free of charge from noon to 5 p.m.
(last museum entrance at 4 p.m.)Usually it is around the 3rd Sunday in May. As of the time of this posting . . . they had not decided for 2024 yet. If this changes when they post it to http://www.museumsofthearroyo.com we will tweak any info.
museums are:
- The Gamble House
- Heritage Square Museum
- The Los Angeles Police Museum
- The Lummis Home and Garden
- The Pasadena Museum of History.
A free shuttle should be available to move us around.
All six (five) museums will have their usual historical displays and galleries open, and special MOTA Day activities
Here is their main website. Always check the website for best and latest info.
http://www.museumsofthearroyo.com
Since you only have a few hours of free access to these locations, and free events like this tend to attract a crowd . . . arrive early
It is NOT possible to see all. Pick three museums and explore at a leisurely pace.
In this case . . . . All the locations are standout. Yeah . . . I know you read the Police Museum and thought to pass on that.
But yes . . .along with the other things they have there, . . .
You get to snap take own free police booking photos or stand in a criminal lineup in the Interrogation Room.I totally need to update my mugshot. I think the last one I have a different haircut. This is so much more convenient and does not involve a taser.
So since all the places are good. RSVP and then POST in the comments what museum you want to START at (and the time expected). If I see a trend I will use that as starting point.
Gold Line Connections
Both Heritage Square and the Southwest are stops on the Gold
Line. Consider taking Metro to MOTA Day.Parking . . .
Parking is available on surface streets around each museum; there
is limited parking at the Southwest and the Los Angeles Police Museum’s
parking lots. There is no parking on Homer Street near Heritage Square.
Ample parking can be found at the Heritage Square Gold Line parking lot; park there and enter Heritage Square from the south gate.Shuttles
Shuttles will stop at all museums except Heritage Square; visitors must take a short walk from Lummis Home to get to Heritage Square.
Shuttles will run in two routes:
Gamble House/Police Museum route
AND
Police Museum/Lummis-Southwest route. To attend this event

- {Free} Getty Villa Art Adventure/Montessori Scavenger Hunt/Kinetic Art Activity=The Getty Villa, Pacific Palisades, CA
The Getty Villa . . . that amazing place to go.
If you have never been. . . it should be on your list. If you have been before . . . Always good to visit again!!
This event will have several parts/aspects. It is a Getty Villa visit where we will have an Art Adventure.
It will consist of Peristyle Tour, mini art lecture, then we break off into our Montessori Scavenger Hunt/Kinetic Art Activity. After that we re-convene for a themed Potluck Picnic.
What makes this event different from others that visit to Getty Villa . . . is you don't have to take care of tickets. They have given us tix for 100 persons.Space is LIMITED. To attend you MUST Fill out the event form https://forms.gle/FW4aozDwU1ngkqVu6
Attendance is NOT first come first served. Your attendance will be depending upon if you have filled out our google form completely. If you do not fill out the form, I can not send you tickets and entry info, and meetup location info, and schedule.
Also . . . I need your name for the gate to be on the gate list. Screen-names do not work. +1 or Plus One as a name does not work. Need name for you and any guests to be on the gate list we will provide to the gate.
About a week before the event I send the tix pdf via email.
Question: This all sounds like a lot of hoops to go thru. Why so many steps?
Answer: Because we only get so many slots. What we do not want is to hand out slots to those who will be a no-show.They are very well aware we are coming and they are happy to have us attend. This is why they give us space and allow use of the picnic and the theater area.
Itinerary
9:30 to 10:00 Arrival

IF you are parked and in there by 10AM you will get the extra bonus Docent Tour of the Peristyle
Lunch will in the picnic area reserved for us.
THEMED POTLUCK bring anything AS LONG AS you can tie it in to Greek, Italian, Roman. Be creative about it. We will provide the plates, napkins, utensils.
After that spend more time at the museum at your leisure with new friends. The Getty Villa is a free museum. This is a FREE event (there is no charge from us) BUT . . . You have to pay for parking.
Parking is $25 per car(they just raised it). You will NEED to have a Museum Entry Ticket from us to be able to be allowed in the parking area.If you have questions of taking bus or uber, or other parking questions http://www.getty.edu/visit/villa/plan/parking.html
And yes, . . .the museum is fully aware we are coming and doing this. So it's not like we will get in trouble. But we still have to behave and follow rules.

- So you want to be an organizer? Find out how to post your own event on the groupLink visible for attendees
Why not host some events. Great way to meet people!!!
Got an idea for an event or an event you want to do?
NOW is your chance!!!!
It's a new year coming up. AND you want it to be different than the last.
Do you find events and think: "Gee, . . . I like this event but want it closer, or on a different day, or just a little earlier or later."If you post the event you pick the time, and place and date that in convenient to you. As well as pick the content/topic/focus of the event.
What a win!!!
This meetup is a giant collaboration. In that vein we welcome new organizers.
These are basic rules all organizers must abide by and work within. Mostly they are all about showing a respect for the members.
Best Practices or the rules simplified.
- No Emailing and no using the "discussion" box
- No outside links
- All events are Hosted. There are no "no host" events.
- List any money costs in the first 2 or 3 lines.
- Special note about Repeat Events.
- Special note about city or area in title
Not too many rules. Not too complicated. They all have to do with respect for the membership.
1.) No Emailing AND No Discussion Box
The one BIG BIG rule I have is NOBODY messages the general membership via the email feature. Post the event and let Meetup send out all the notices. The discussion box is just another way for you to send spam. So that is closed, and only for the use and management by and of the (main) organizer only.2.) No Outside links:
No links to other meetups. No links to other social media (no instagram, no eventbrite, no twitter, no facebook etc).
For instance: Do not just put a Facebook link. Instead copy all the wording from FB and put the words. Plain and simple; Link's are lazy. So don't be lazy!!!
You want members to click the RSVP. So you don't give any other option that may lead them away from the event page.
*** If you "need" outside links of any sort: Contact the lead organizer and just make sure ok. It usually is. Just ask first.3.) Meetup does not allow "No Host" events. You or the listed Event Host will be there and present. You will welcome and make sure people can find you or the meetup area. And that people will be able to actually be able to meet others from meetup. If members in attendance report you are not attending your events you will not be allowed to continue to post events. If you want to post an "informational" event then go and post it on Craigslist.
4.) List money costs in the first few lines.
This has to do with email notices. The email version of the event sends the first few lines of the writeup. If it's free, . . .say it's free. If it costs . . . say it early so people have the info.
If it is free it is best to include the word "Free" in the title.5.) Events can repeat no more than every three weeks, unless you get permission ahead of time.
When making a repeating event DO NOT USE the auto-scheduling feature. After your event occurs log on and list it again.
The Auto-pilot is a problem as people forget they listed. They don't show up and people do. The complaints end up being filed against the group and not the organizer that bailed.
If you use the "repeat" feature it will be edited and the future ones edited off.6.) List the city or area in the title. You get better turnout and less flakes.
There are some general guidelines to making great events
General Guidelines:- Great wording
- Great Pix
- 4 weeks notice is best
Cost of posting events?

The logistics of providing food for every possible diet, as well as food prep issues is just not feasible or safe.
AND
Due to varied dietary needs and food contact issues, it's better if bring what you like and prep it.
What gear do I need?
The only specialized gear you need is Tent, Sleeping bag, Sleeping Pad (yoga mat). Everything else is household items you already have.
Special note: this is Tent camping. No RV. No Trailers. No giant campervans.
Can I park my car next to my tent?
Sniffing tires, oil, exhaust and fuel? Yuck!!! You cars will be close. But not on top of us. Cars on one side. Humans on the other. If we overflow our parking area . . . there is an overflow parking area.
Carpools?
-
Carpool info goes out ONLY to paid attendees. (it really sucks to set up a carpool with a person who is not actually going)
-
Carpool info ONLY goes out to those who fill out the ATTENDEES/CARPOOL FORM (this way it is reliable info)
-
Carpool info goes out all at once (not as you sign on)
-
Carpool info goes out 1 week before the event. Too early and most carpools fall apart. It really sucks when your ride canceled at asked for a refund a month ago but did not tell you. Carpools info sent when it is stable of who is attending.
-
Carpool in week before makes sense because that's when people can really determine schedule and departure time and availability.
Refunds?
If requested 2 weeks before event start: 100% refund.
If requested less than 2 weeks: 100% Full Credit be applied to ANY future event we run.
